Botanical Traces

Cadine is pleased to present
Andrea Simmonds' exhibition of work:
Botanical Traces
May 3rd - June 30th, 2022

Artist Statement
Botanical Traces is an ever-evolving body of work that includes art classes, plant walks, and paintings.  Andrea works with the seasonality of different species, choosing what would be most visible in nature at a specific time of year.  She explores spring, summer, fall, and winter and the features in nature that define these times. These natural relationships are then translated onto the canvas, inviting the viewer to understand a moment in the natural world from her perspective.

Artist Biography
Andrea Simmonds studies local ecology to express into her paintings.  As a landscape consultant and designer, she brings her intricate knowledge of native plants and companion species into her artwork.  She is an aspiring naturalist and while living on Southern Vancouver Island she has closely studied the endangered Garry Oak Ecosystem. She highlights the unique plants that comprise this special and unique ecosystem.  Andrea seeks to lure people in with colour and have them leave with a better understanding of local ecology.
